Prostitution
Do you think it should be legalized? Why?

Yes, same reason why I think abortion should stay legal. It's safer, keeps people safer. It can be regulated, tax'd etc... why not since people do it anyways?

Additionally, the law in place now only works for those willing to follow it, so they're almost pointless. People who don't participate in prostitution, more than likely won't even if it were legal. |

Legalize, regulate it, and tax it. It would seriously cut down on abuse of the prostitutes, give them a position of power to negotiate for their own health and safety (i.e. Sorry, bud, but the rules say you MUST wear a condom), cut down on the addiction-prostitution link, and give the government another revenue source.

What would be the benifit to permitting it? Is it something that somehow supports society, encourages tolerance or unites people who are on uncommon grounds? It's just frivolity ... an unimportance. If they took the time and effort to make it illegal and enforce it all these years then why waste more time and money undoing it if it has no true purpose. Making it legal would be a reverse of ex post facto - which is a practice that's looked down on making things illegal after they've been committed. If people want to have sex then they can just have sex - why demand the right to have to pay for it or to be paid for it? How is whoring yourself out some sort of career to aspire too. Even in countries where it's legal I still think it's trashy and distasteful. People should respect theirselves more than that. However - it is legal to do pornography so if someone really truly wants to sell their naughty bits like they're property then that's the path to, apparently, take.
