Gifts, b-days and kids
I wondered if I should put this in debates or general, but things with peoples kids can get heated.
*question* If you have more than one child (if not pretend you do) do you buy all the kids gifts on each b-day. For example your kids are 5, 7, and 9 and when 5yr old turns 6 do you buy 7 and 9 gifts as well as 6, so they wont feel left out at the party? I have known people who did this. Makes no sense to me, perhaps it is because I don't have kids. I never got gifts on my siblings b-days, we always knew a b-day was our special day and we didn't have to share it.

My family always got me a gift on my brothers birthday and vice versa when we were younger..
Until we were old enough to understand why each other got presents. |

I know my brother-in-law does that with his girls. It can get kind of expensive, but its your choice.
I don't think I would do it. Talk to them about how its so and sos birthday and that when they have their birthday that they'll get a present then.

We try not to but it always seems that during the shopping trip to pick out a gift for the birthday kid the non birthday kid finds something they just have to have. Its just something little I don't think its a big deal. Its not like I wrap it up and have the non birthday kid open it during the party.
I grew up as an only child even though I have brothers and a sister. We rarely spent birthdays together. I don't ever recall getting anything as the non birthday kid. |

Umm, no. Birthday presents are for the person who is celebrating their birthday...not for the entire family so that siblings don't feel left out. That's ridiculous.

Nope.
It is not their birthday so they do not get a present. If we are having a birthday party then they will get one of the goodie bags. Other then that nothing. I know parents and grandparents that do this and I, personally, think it's silly. A child's birthday should be special for THEM not everyone else.

No, if it is not your birthday you don't get presents. It may be hard for kids to understand but that is part of life and just something that they have to learn. Would that also mean those people had to buy their kid a present every time they took their child/ren to somebody else's birthday presents just because the kid wouldn't understand?
