While watching the local news tonight I was extremely disappointed by the fact that the TOP HEADLINE of the night was an over 5 minute news story about what else--the swine flu. It's been the same stuff they've been spouting since it emerged in the begining, and the same stuff they've been saying almost every night since flu season began. 20 minutes in and I have YET to see any mention of the 14 Americans killed in Afghanistan, that bothers me, I finally just turned it off

.
So here's the question.
Do you think the media/nation is spreading unnecessary fear about H1N1. While watching the news earlier in the evening I heard a doctor they interviewed say an average of 36,000 people die from the normal flu every year and that they weren't sure H1N1 would be any worse. Why do we rarely ever hear about those numbers every year?
I'm not saying people shouldn't protect themselves to an extent, but is all of this constant coverage really necessary? Or is it just causing unnecessary panic?
