Do you question them?
Your doctors that is. I've seen a lot of posts on here from people who believe doc knows best and that they don't argue at all. So do you? Or do you believe that they might not always know whats best?

Me personally, I do. Evan's doctor from birth to 2 was a crock. We couldn't switch from her at all..the other doc on base was completely full because of people leaving ours.
She missed horrid ear infections for months in our friend's son...to the point where he needed tubes. They took him downtown finally and they saw it immediately. And us....well, she told us at most Evan had a slight speech delay. No other issues. We get here and now Evan has 9 specialists and therapists and we have discovered that he has sensory issues, a speech delay (as in barely 5 words at almost 3), hearing issues (he is at about 50% hearing and we have no idea why...still dealing with ENT about that), diet issues, the list goes on and on. He also is being tested for a rare disease (Maple Syrup Urine Disease) right now. And she never noticed a damn thing. We asked every now and then but she shrugged it off so we left it alone. Little did we know... ![]() I've learned the hard way to say "Wait....explain.". Our new developmental pedi trained at the best hospitals, he is amazing with Evan, and he knows his stuff. But you can bet your ass that he gets drilled every appt. And being a good doctor...he answers every last question.

I've had docs misdiagnois me, get **** wrong, take the quick fix route. I think there is nothing wrong with getting a second opinion if you dont think the answer you got was the right one for you or a your situation. Doctors are human like the rest of us.

We went in and they kept asking about vaxes and where he was. I said we are on a delayed schedule and they all kept saying "Well, once we catch you up..." "Lets get you caught up...". I kept repeating "NO, we DEEEEEE-LAAAAY." And they would like at me like I had two heads. I gave up finally and just figured since they were that oblivious they wouldn't even notice that we weren't going to the shot clinic after.

We had major issues with Fort Gordon doctors with DS. He has "allergies" for about 15 months before finally going to a civilian doctor when Joe got out of the military. Within a week of review his records and seeing his "allergies" they said he was having reoccurring ear infections and needed tubes. That was almost 2 years ago and he has not had a problem since.

Yes, if I need to. I know what I am feeling, and doctors do not. I have had problems where doctors were wrong before, and you have to fight sometimes for what you know is right. It is important to be your own advocate.
