so i was laying in the bathtub and for some reason i came up with a question. i put it in here, just in case it gets heated. i'm not really looking for people to debate it, but given the topic i'm sure it will happen. i was more just curious.


how do you feel about selective abortion when someone ends up pregnant with a large number of babies? typically due to fertility methods.


i'm talking like octomom preggo. not twins or triplets

depends on if the quantity is threatening to the other babies or the mother.

as always, it's the parents' choice, but it would break my heart to have to make that decision if i were going through fertility methods in order to get pregnant.

i think it is the logical thing to do, but not necessarily the right thing emotionally for some people . having so many babies growing in your uterus at one time causes alot of health problems, not only for the babies but the mother as well. but now being a mom, i'm not sure i would be able to make that decision. i am pro-choice though

It Depends on if it would harm the mother or the children in any way. Because If not they are paying to get pregnant and they got it so kinda silly to abort just because there are more than 2 or something

Well for me I think it is wrong. They knew the risk of it happening when they had the procedure done. They wanted to be pregnant so bad an now that they are it makes no sense for them to say how many babies they should have. I do agree that if it is a life threating situation then ok but not because they don't want that many babies. Jmo of course.

I don't know how I feel about it. If a person is trying so hard to have babies, I can only imagine how hard it would be to terminate a life created in such a fashion.

I understand why people do it, but i know i could never make that decision. Medically sometimes it is the only option but i just don't know if i could ever make that choice.

Thats a tough question.. When undergoing the treatments for infertility, you know what your doing and you know your risks... If you impant 8 embryo's you know you could have 8+ babies... chances are slim, but a chance your taking... I think they should put a limit on the amount of embryo's they are allowed to implant. Usually other forms of treatment (chlomid/ect ect) doesn't end up with THAT many babies...
I think its a personal choice, but I think women need to be more aware and selective over how the do their infertility treatments...

I battled infertility, and I know how hard it is, and why women would choose to implant so many.. all in all its a very personal decision

I'm for it. I think someone should be able to choose whether or not they want to have a million kids. If it's by selective abortion, then so be it.

thats why i was wondering. if i had to go through fertility methods to get pregnant, i don't think i would be able to do it. but i'm not sure i would be able to NOT do it given all the health risks to the babies. knowing i could end up with 2 or 3 healthy babies or 6 or so babies who may not make it would push me to do it. but emotionally i'm not sure i could...does that make sense
