Celeb wages vs school teacher wages
Do you think school teachers should be earning the money "celebrities" do and "celebrities" earn that which a schoolteacher currently makes. In short, do you think the 2 "professions" should swap wages?

No... While I think celebs are overpaid, I don't think they should be earning a teachers salary for what they do, its still hard work, long hours, and so on
I do think teachers should be making a hell of a lot more then they are now... Anyone with such an important job should not only be paid more, but treated with a hell of a lot more respect as well

I don't think they should swap wages...celebrities make that much money because thats what people are willing to pay them. People treat celebrities like demi-Gods.
Teachers are...well teachers are just normal regular human beings that most people couldn't give a crap about. Also, I'm just going to say that, depending on the state...I do think teachers get paid fairly decent wages. I think the job is incredibly challenging, but some people have the personality to do a wonderful job. I think capping class sizes at 25 students is more important than raising salaries astronomically. Figuring in the fact that teachers work about 190 days a year (sometimes less, sometimes more), the wages aren't that bad. For a teacher with a masters in Georgia they start at about $35k a year...thats about $25 an hour. Not too shabby...and Georgia is a much lower paying state. Most states in the south pay poorly |

nah...Im a teacher and I agree I should be getting paid more because of all the work I do at home and because of all the overtime I put in...but I don't need millions haha...just a simple 10,000 a year upgrade would do the trick!!!!

And I guess summer work depends on the teacher....as a guidance counselor I don't really have summer work, and my mom has been a 1st-3rd grade reading teacher for 15 years and she never brought home work at night or during the summer and was still a fantabulous teacher. I think to some extent it depends on the age you work with. |

I think you could put almost any career in that statement "do you think celebs and (insert career here) should swap pay". So many challenging professions do not get paid their worth to society. Teachers, Doctors, Nurses, EMT's, Judges, Police, Firemen, Servicemembers ect.....but Celebs and Athletes are what society idolize hence the huge sums of money they make.

Kids give a huge crap about us. I teach in a very urban setting and the teachers in my school are like the students 2nd parents. ETA:my dad teaches 11th grade and brings home work every night. He doesn't get paid for that...and he works for at least 2 hours every single night...oh and on Sundays too

[QUOTE=Jayo;6123574]Yes Jill you are right. I have told the story of how my 3rd grade teacher was the kindest, warmest soul to me in one of the darkest moments in my life. She took me under her wing when my Mom died.....and we recently re-connected and I will never be able to repay her compassion.
