Westboro Baptist Church coming to San Diego....what would you do?

Well we got a note from the Principal at my sons HS, here in San Diego.
[B]Dear Family,

You may have heard that there is a non-school group planning to stage a protest Monday morning, October 19th in front of our school.

The group is arriving in San Diego from Topeka, Kansas to protest at several local churches, synagogues, schools, and other locations in the county. Their messages are inflammatory and provocative, knowing when the public reacts strongly it garners more media attention.

If you see this protest, please drive by and deliver your child to school just as you would on any other day.

Though you may find their messages and actions distasteful and alarming, I ask that you ignore them and not respond or react to create a media event which would distract from our school’s focus. We will do all we can as well ,to avoid being distracted from our school’s mission to educate your children. There will be extra campus security to help students arrive to school safely.

Upon doing my research the group that is coming in front of the school is doing an anti abortion campaign. They will also be around the San Diego area at various churches the day before doing numerous protests as well for different subjects. I know this group is the same one that protests the Military Funerals and the like also.
They will be on the street it says in front of the school. This is the only way for us to go in and out. Although the school says they will have security I am hesitant on sending my son 1st thing do to some of the actions that have been known to go on with this group.
Would you or would you not allow your child to go to school amoung all these people?

I am having my middle son spend the night with his dad that night and take him to school though. I am avoiding having questions from my 9 yr old about it. I think my 16 yr old is ready to handle it though. The only thing is come to find out they have since talked to the kids about it today and expect it to get pretty crazy.

You know my thoughts on this It isnt the fact of the images seen. Its the violence that follows this part group and their disgusting message to boot. I would keep my kid home in a heartbeat

I'd take them, and possibly walk them in. Like the poster above me said...let them know that what they do isn't affecting my day to day life.

For thos who arent aware of this group... This is the same group whom protests at military funerals. Their websit is godhatesf*gs.com (im not gonna actually spell it cuz its disgusting) and the messages they have for their picket is deragotory and absolutely vile.

To be honest, I have NO idea what I'd do...I would want to prove them wrong and act like it doesn't bother me, but then again I agree with Kaymara.

Actually, if they are in the schools vicinity, I'm almost positive the principle can ask them to leave based on the penal code.

Something similar happened at my high school and the penal code stated they had to be away from the school for two full weeks before they could return.

Of course, after two weeks exactly, they returned, and asked to leave again.

I would look into the penal code myself, email my child's teacher, hope the principal is aware of the code, and then stand across the street from them with a sign of opposition and piss them the **** off.

They came to our college campus a few time. They're obnoxious and awful, but what they really want is to get under your skin. They thrive on people arguing or engaging them. As long as you leave them alone they usually don't go out of their way to get to you. I guess if you felt taking your child to school would expose him to something you don't want him to see, keep him home. Otherwise, I'm sure he'd be safe.
