    Question Jobs today

    Advertisements
Do you think that people still feel that they are too good to work some jobs even with the economy being the way it is?
Are you scrappy enough for me

Some people, yes. The majority, though, just want A job - as evidenced by the overwhelming turnout for the much publicized school janitorial position a couple of weeks ago.

OH yeah, for example I work in retail hell, I have talked to people who do not
have a job and I mention that we are looking for people and they say,
"oh I would never work in retail." one person said it was "below them"
shit if it came between paying bills and feeding my family I cannot think
of a job that was below me.

unfortunately many people end up being overqualified for jobs....I've even applied at mcdonalds and been told with a masters they wouldn't hire me...too overqualified and they know I'd leave when better came along

I don't feel I am too good working at Mcd's (for example) is not going to pay my bills. Even if Mcd's was hiring and could work around the schedule I need to have so that I can care for my kids.

Yeah...sometimes I can understand it . . . and there are some jobs that I will never do - not really because I think I can't do them or I'm too good for them but because they don't interest me enough.

Yes. Some people don't have the luxury to be picky though and should think about that.

I will NEVER work fast food. I did it in high school and will never do it again. I don't think it'd beneath me but I just don't want to. Im lucky enough that I don't *need* a job. I *want* one so I can be a bit more picky about where I put in applications.

If I was a single mom though in this economy, then I'd work fast food if it meant my kids ate and my bills were paid.

Yes. Some people will always feel that way. My mother works part time at Papa John's and when I tell people that they cringe, as if my mother shouldn't be working such a "low class" gig. Well fuck that. She makes BANK in tips on weekends.

I worked at Subway and received the same reaction.

If you can get a better paying job then of course you would pick the best paid one but if it came to cleaning toilets at theme parks vs. sitting on my ass waiting for "Insert 'respectable' job here" to call me back, I'm going to suck it up and get my hands dirty.
