    Adoption

    Advertisements
Has a debate on adoption itself been had here before? I know that we've had the abortion debate many times, but I don't think I've seen adoption debated.

I've been doing some reading online today from anti-adoption groups and I must say I'm intrigued. I don't know that I fully support them, but they do have compelling arguments about the business of adoption and at the very least I must say that I agree that adoption is a business. It's not all rainbows and puppies.

So, here are a few links that I've found (but I have not read all of them, in the process of it):

    http://www.brandeis.edu/investigate/...ingtonPost.pdf
http://www.clovapublications.com/_da...comparison.pdf (This link is a comparison of the US domestic adoption and Australia, from what I understand of the BRIEF part I've read of it - their adoption policy is similar to what adoption reformers are calling for)

I haven't decided that I'm against adoption by any means, but based on what I have read so far I do feel that it's at least something to read into more.

I'm not against adoption at all. I think it's a wonderful alternative to keeping unwanted children--if done right, honestly, and legally.

If I ever decided to be a mother again, I would absolutely adopt a child.

But, I would never, ever consider giving my OWN bio child up for adoption. That is not an option for me. I'd rather abort.

I don't support the extreme cost of adoption, but being that I can't get pregnant, I will pay it if it means giving a child a family

For me personally I'd never put a baby up for adoption. This world is overpopulated enough. When people say do the right thing put the baby up for adoption. I just think yeah that's so much better

I must thank my birth mother. I was adopted and had a very abusive childhood but should you give me the choice to be freed from my misery by abortion or live that horrible life ...I would say with my whole heart I would choose to be adopted all over again.

I have endured much pain but oh so many joys ...my children , dear friends and my husband not counting the wonders that the world has to offer. The chance to enjoy life, a chance that I am so grateful for.

Adoption is the only real way of finding a home for children who aren't wanted when they're born, have needs that the bio-parent's cannot meet or who have been orphaned, etc.

How anyone can be against adoption in any small way and want to actually deny a child a loving, caring home and a normal life is disgusting. I actually find opposition to adoption to be more incomprehensible than opposition to abortion.
You truely have to be heartless to NOT want children - living, breathing, feeling, thinking, functioning, etc etc etc . . . to be in a solid, stable and caring home.

    I support adoption 100%
I, however, feel that the system, cost, regulations and so forth need to be seriously reworked so the system can become more effective, efficient and so on.

But, still, nothing can make me against it - at all.

I fully support interracial, homosexual, varied religious and cultural and any other "union" for adoption as long as the parents 1) can care for the child's basic needs 2) want the child.

I'm leaning towards adoption reformation, from what I've spent the morning reading. I think that it IS too much like a business in the United States. I think we need to do away with Adoption Agencies.

I don't think people who are against adoption are heartless, though. My mother was adopted and when I found out I was pregnant with Ricky, her advice was abort or keep. She had a negative view of adoption, but then she was adopted during the "Baby Scoop Era".

If it was up to me I'd much rather adopt than have my own child. I do not need a mini-me to make me feel complete. Heck I think one of me is enough for the world as it is. I'd much rather adopt a child that needs a loving home.

I am however against adoption as a business. I would love to adopt, the cost always held me back in the past. I do not believe you should have to pay for a child. They are not an item. They deserve love, care, and attention.

The cost does not necessarily keep undesireables (is that even a word?) from adoption. You can be mega loaded and still be trash.

Well - they need to do better and more thorough follow ups.

Remember not too long ago a family admitted that when their 11 yr old adopted son went missing they didn't report him missing ... they didn't give a damn. They said (10 years later when it finally was brought to everyone's attention that the boy was gone) that "we thought that maybe he just ran away or went back hoem to his real parents..."

Sure- the system is fucked but I feel that the only alternative to adoption agencies is government-run and the governmetn will just fuck it up even more.
