if you knew how to complete the following procedures, would you have been able to complete them for the duration of your labor?

Well, since one of my friend's mom delivered one of her kids five minutes before the ambulance arrived *eek!* I made sure to memorize the back of Dr. Spock and was prepared to deliver my child myself if necessary

Also, when I was in labor - long, horrid labor! - the external monitor wasn't working properly and they wanted to do an internal which I flat out refused to allow so I had to keep track of all kinds of little details to relay to the staff so they could monitor me.

OMG NO! I was in so much pain even with an epi, plus I was so out of it theres no way I could have done that through the duration of labor.

Out of curiosity, how many of these steps deemed "necessary" in labor were being done prior to oh, say . . . 1800?
