    Free Birthing

    Advertisements
What are your thoughts on this? For those who do not know what it is, from what I gathered watching the show on tv, it's when a mother chooses to give birth at home, UN-ASSISTED by a midwife, doctor, or any specialist in general. Some of these women even go as far as to not even get prenatal care!

Here is a website that explains more about what free birth is, mind you it is a website created by someone who thinks free births is the bee's knees.

I think it is pretty cool! I would love to do that but I am done having kids. A home water birth with a midwife is as close as I will ever get.

i think it's a woman's choice. some women are so jaded by the healthcare system that they don't want to place their child's life in potential danger

It is NOT something I would be comfortable with, but the idea, in general, facinates me and I can completely understand the attraction to it. I fully support their choice in how to deliver their own child.

i think it is safe in a normal healthy pregnancy and that the educated people that do this (there are some ignorant people that do this as well) have had their pregnancy followed to some degree by a mid wife. Amazingly enough women have given birth this way since the dawn of man kind. Pregnancy is not a illness it is in most instances a normal healthy life event.

If a person is high risk, a VBAC etc then obviously one would hope they would have a home birth assisted with a mid wife, a birthing center, or even a hospital.

Either way it is not my body, not my pregnancy, not my birth and as such not my business to judge.

Personally I feel that prenatal are is overrated as it is. During a normal pregnancy most doctors will do nothing more than listen to the heartbeat and measure the mother's belly anyway.

Women have given birth like this for centuries and as long as the woman has a normal pregnancy I see nothing wrong with it.

I had so many issues with my prenatal care and births (pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, and then bleeding post-birth), I cannot IMAGINE having a safe birth without medical intervention.

kudos to the women who can, however. I just hope they're not too far to get to a hospital if something horrific occurs (breech footling, shoulder dystocia, etc.)
    Sad, sad, sad. Pathetic, actually.

I think its a womans choice. I could never do it because I'd be too afraid something would go wrong.

I think that women did it for THOUSANDS of years before western medicine and many women in other cultures are still doing it. What's the big deal? It's a choice the parents make and I think it's commendable if they take the time to know what they're doing.
