    Alzheimers Defense....

    Advertisements
on the news this morning they were talking about a wrestler who killed a man in a nursing home- the DA is looking at pressing charges against him. the wrestler ( 87) has no memory of the attack, nor of the man he killed.

here is the link for the Video from this morning:

my question: Is Alzhiemers a viable defense ?

my answer is : yes, Alzhiemers disease is a form of dementia, and they are not really sane- not INSANE but incabable of making a sound decision and IMO cannot be tried in a court of law.

Yes. If he is a danger, as this man appears to be even unwittingly, they should isolate him or something.

As long the person is diagnosised with the disease by the proper specialists, I have no problem with it being a defense.

Yes, but something needs to be done to keep others and himself safe in the future.

I agree. My grandmother has it, and it's hard for me to understand it sometimes when she doesn't remember her own children; but it is a very real disease.

Yes, I find it similar to pleading insanity, if it applies. and I agree with Donna's response.

Post-partum and such matters are a defense, Alzheimer's should be. We had to watch my Memmaw die of Alzhimer's. Alzhemer's is a horrible horrible thing.

I completely understand what you're saying.... but having just lost my grandpa to this months ago I have one input.... during one of the stages of the disease they become very uncontrollably angry, are prone to violence, etc. The problem is, this is not a clearly defined stage it can occur at any time and any place.... it can't always be predicted. Considering the disease can be ongoing for years you can't necessarily isolate them for that long. Does that make sense?
