    S/O of School Lunch

    Advertisements
Should public schools do away with School lunches?

That would mean every child would either Bring His/her own sack lunch or Go out to lunch if someone were to pick them up or in HS go themselves.

Or should there be another option?

No, because what about the families that cannot afford to send a lunch (those that would qualify for free/reduced lunch)? Too many kids would go without lunch.

    No.
The school district where my brother works everyone gets free lunch, no 'approval' required.

No. If you are going to hold a child for 8 hours, you better offer him a healthy meal.
You will have too many parents who are not able to pack a healthy meal for their child.
There are already too many complaints of obesity in children, and too much junk food in schools.
The whole idea of letting kids off campus for meals, especially the jr. high and below crowd creates so many new head aches, its honestly not even worth thinking about.

No. There's no real reason NOT to have them, in my opinion.

Most high schools won't allow kids to leave the campus during lunch hours because of what a huge hassle it was.

Oh and open campus for high schools would've been a no-go for my high school. Nobody would come back for class after lunch!

When I was in HS you had to have at least a 2.5 GPA and a signed permission slip from the parents to have open lunch. Also you had to be either gone or in the parking lot in your car until the lunch bell rang. You were not allowed back inside the school til then.

Honestly, it would cut the school budget... plus, school lunches are NOT healthy. There have been numerous articles about schools receiving tainted meat and other dangerous products that are then fed to school children. If they cannot pony up the cash to make the lunches healthy and safe then they may as well quit. I'm sure they could find a way to give a stipend to free/reduced lunch parents. They could keep pre-made "sack lunches" on hand in case kids forgot them....

Then again, I don't care that much since I send lunch with my kid every day anyway...
It's Halloween so.... you know, BOO!
