    Question married?

    Advertisements
Okay I know that they are not legally married....but here is the thing

A woman I know told me when I ran into her that she got married, but not legally married. A minister did the whole shebang like a wedding minus the legal marriage certificate. She said that they are "married in God's eyes" that they do not need the "laws of man" to be together. She loves him and he loves her...no need for a paper

So would you consider them married? even though in the eyes of the law they are not?

    No.

I think somewhere in the bible it talks about respecting the laws of the land. Since they're not respecting the law and they're not married by the law, they're not married by God either.

.... Why WOULDN'T they legalize it?

I mean, if that's what being married means to them, then its whatever. They both consented to it. I just can't see why they wouldn't want to be legally married.

I would not consider them married. For one, I am not religious. Secondly, she's simply not married.

I asked her and all I got was
"God and we know we are married, no need for the government to know"

Yes I would consider them married. Marriage isn't just legal, and it isn't just religious/spiritual.... it can be both or one or the other.

They have chosen to just get married religiously... my husband and I managed to get married both ways... and most people who have had just a JOP are probably just married legally.

It would have required them signing a piece of paper. I don't see why they wouldn't have just done it, if they went through the trouble of having a "show" wedding.

I disagree. There is no law saying you can't get religiously/spiritually married without getting legally married... the only law is that you can't get LEGAL benefits without the LEGAL marriage.

They are two separate things and are legally allowed to be two separate things.

In Romans chapter 13, it says to uphold the laws of the government... and if they're not legally married then IMO they're not married by the lord either.

    Just my opinion.
