    WIC and ppl looking down their noses

    Advertisements
    My hubby is a SNCO, but b/c I don't work and the amt of kids(all ours) we have,we do qualify for WIC. Now I may be over-reacting, but I've always been able to read ppl well.

    I was in the Commisary yesterday, and I had my WIC check in my hand, along with a short grocery list. I ran into an Officers wife that I know from a few functions(that I'd rather not mention for anon sake). We saw each other and said a few words, both bubbly and smiley, then at one point she was looking at my hand with the list, and her face just changed. It wasn't just a glance, it was a studious stare, like she was trying to figure out if it was a wic check or not. I had run into her again on another aisle, and i made made quick small talk ie, I was just in this aisle and STILL forgot what i was supposed to get. She didn't look at me, but looked at the check again...a double check. Then she gave me this fake smile and looked down. It was the first time i felt embarassed in public to be holding a WIC check.

    I say all that to ask this;

    Do ppl really look down on others if they receive WIC?
    Deployments don't last forever, they just feel like it

    Good grief, that woman needs a reality check. I would never look down on someone for that.

    I would not/ do not.....It is not my place to judge, when I was a kid we got food stamps, I do not know what the hell someone would judge another person just because of that.

    Yes, people definitely look down their noses at people who use WIC and any kind of government assistance. Not everyone, but there are "those people" out there who think it is their right to judge someone else's personal, financial situation. It sucks, but it happens.

    Were you feeling sub-conscious before you went in? Sometimes when I feel that way about something I'm wearing then I feel like everyone is staring at me and my outfit... or if my hair is f-ed up then I feel like when people are talking or laughing that they are laughing at me. I'm not trying to say that was what happened... but I would just like to believe that people aren't like that women.

    I think the general public unfortunately does. Yes.
