capital punishment is Cruel or do you think that if you are on death row you have done something to deserve it?

I was watching today on American Justice that a man in the 1980's was on death row for killing and raping a 3 year old girl. He was put into the Mississippi gas chamber and it took him well over 8 minutes to die. It is supposed to take only 2 minutes before a person goes into cardiac arrest and dies. His lawyers then claimed that he died from cruel and unusual punishment. The same with the American a few years back that was caned in Singapore for vandializing there city people believe that that was cruel and unusual punishment.

What do you think?

I believe that too. I think that the boy in Singapore should have gotten that too. When in Rome you do as the Romans. I would expect if someone from another country committed a crime in America that they would be punished by our rules. I believe that if someone is on death row they deserve what they get. Most of the time you don't get death row for writing bad checks ya know.

Is it cruel, yes it can be. Does that make a difference to me, no. The system can be flawed as are most things with the judicial system.

Another question for this... If you are for capital punishment, do you believe in redemption? Like the Tookie Williams (?) case...

I think that if you are on death row then you deserve to be there. I'm glad that it takes them some time for that man to die in the gas chamber, let him suffer for what he did to that little girl.

I'm not sure that I believe in capital punishment - I'm don't think that two wrongs make a right. That said, I don't think that a criminal should be spared a punishment when entering a country that practices capital punishment, just because he/she comes from a country that does not. They are aware of the laws and punishments they carry - why should they be exempt?
