    Age of the Universe....

    Advertisements
According to the bible, the universe isn't very old. (Not sure on the exact numbers)

Yet scientific research has shown that it takes lights millions of years to reach us.

How can we see it, if the universe has only been around for a fraction of that time?

Disclaimer: This is in NO way meant to bash Christianity. Just an interesting thought I stumbled across.

Well we don't really KNOW what the time is in the bible. creation could of taken far longer because we don't know what one day is to G-d.

    I should rephrase.

Christians believe that God has been around forever.... but there was NOTHING but darkness before he created the heavens and earth, right?

So, assuming he made those other universes/galaxies/whatever (which, wouldn't it take even longer for the light to travel here since they're even further away?) how can the earth only be as old as they say it is?

That makes the most sense to me, too.

    OP
Well - according to the Bible people, on average, lived for hundreds of years.
Leading to the comfy assumption that time was tallied differently back then.

And it doesn't say just how long God "day 1, 2 and 3" really lasted. What's a day to God? Maybe a day at work for him is like a century to us.

It's, also, been scientifically proven that our days are getting shorter.

So from reading a text that's hundreds of years old and that has been translated time and time again - you can't really draw and modern-day conclusions.
