    Question Fertility medications?

    Advertisements
What are your feelings on fertility meds? Perhaps consider both scenarios: Someone who does not need them vs. someone who does.

ETA: A friend and I were discussing what would be the outcome of women who take fertility meds to purposely have multiples. So we began discussing the idea of women who do not need the meds but are trying for med-induced multiples vs. natural multiples. Sorry about not clarifying my debate question!

    Debate away!

Why would someone who can get pregnant need fertility treatment?
Isn't that a waste of money?

If they don't need it then it's pointless IMO
If they do then I hope they can get it

I don't see why anyone would take them if they were not needed at all.. but I do think if by taking them, it's going to help you in some way, no matter how big or small, then I can't see any problem with it.

Now if you were a guy taking woman's fertility pills.. than yeah, I'd probably say it's not the best idea

Yah but my friend and I were talking about it and I said "so basically if you don't really need them but want multiples, it might be worth the money?" And so that's why I threw that in there because I started thinking about natural multiples vs. fertility med-induced multiples.

I'm going to edit my opening post. Sorry for the lack of clarification!

Oh, well I was thinking about this the other day. I am not sure where I stand with it.. but I know for me, I'd want it to be natural. I wouldn't want "designer babies" in any form of fashion.

Fertility meds are awesome for people who need them but I think it is kind of ridiculous to pay all that money to get multiples when you can have a healthy baby on your own. If they're trying for things like sextuplets, they're just asking for a complicated pregnancy and a difficult first few weeks of life for their babies, not to mention all the struggles they may face in the future, and that doesn't seem fair. Even twins or triplets increase the risk to mom and baby. I don't think it is the best decision ever, if they can afford it and they want to do it, more power to 'em I guess.

I don't care really if their insurance covers it and their DR is fine with it then why am I concerned? Or if they are paying out of pocket it is not my job to be worried about it.

We are going to try to either have my tubes untied or if that won't work IVF. If we do IVF since we will already be paying out of pocket we plan to have the sperm spun to try and up the odds for a girl. If we get twins to boot it would just be a perk.

I personally love the idea of twins... I don't know about triplets. I've never been pregnant so I'm cautious in my thoughts. I personally would love if it were natural because my sister and I think that one of the two of us is up for twins if we get pregnant. I personally would be too scared of any complications that could occur if I ended up being pregnant with multiples, so I don't believe I would purposely want to induce something like that.

What other women choose to do is fine. If I had to take fertility meds, then by all means, I'll take them and trust that my doctors could take care of me if things got complicated. But I don't believe at that time I would insist on trying for multiples if I didn't need fertility meds.
