    Using the word GOD

    Advertisements
Please be patience with me as I try to explain this. I have a "friend" who has pretty much disagree with me on my faith. She is a good person except for always trying to find the wrong in my beliefs. She believes that there is no God and whatnot. That is fine with me, does not effect my ways of getting into Heaven. BUT she uses the word God a lot. Like "thank God, I remember my keys" Or "Good God, that is a huge meal"

So why does she use the word GOD and I would give him thanks for something if she does not believe in it?

My guess is its just a slang word to her. It doesn't have any real meaning.

Yea its kind of like when people say oh my god, or good god when they are surprised about something. They have not meaning to it they just say it like its any other word. I too do not like it when people do that. Sometimes I say thank god but I actually mean it for something.

Personally, I don't use it as slang. I HATE it and find it VERY offensive. I cringe when I hear it. I even hate reading someone put "OM."

Yup, it has become a word most everyone uses as regular language. I do think it is strange to say 'god' when you don't believe in any... but there you have it. So long as someone isn't taking the name in vain around people they KNOW would be offended, I don't complain. I myself say god (and sometimes in vain) and I am not sure what I believe.

I believe in Jesus and I'm Christian. I use phrases like "Oh my God" "Oh thank God" and things like that. Some of those phrases I mean them literally and some (like Oh my God) are kind of like an expression. I do not get offended if people use them unless they are using them in a derogatory way.
