    Would you?

Would you let your 5 year old child ride a wake board? Would you let them ride if an adult was riding with them? *For those that don't know what it is, it's when you ride on a board while a boat pulls you*

It depends on where they are. In a water park with lifeguards everywhere, yeah probably, depending on how strong of a swimmer they were. In the ocean, no. Even with an adult.

Wakeboarding? Where you strap a board to your feet and "snowboard" on water?

I don't know many five-year-olds with enough coordination for a wakeboard...... and my major concern would be that most five-year-olds aren't strong enough swimmers if something goes wrong.... regardless of whether or not they're wearing a life jacket.

So, as a lifeguard, NO. I would not let a 5-year-old wakeboard if it were up to me. Too risky.

Wait, I just reread the OP's post..... what do you mean by riding on a body board?

Are you talking about knee-boarding? Are we talking about the same thing?

    This is wakeboarding....

She said ride a wakeboard, nothing about strapping them in (I think they strap them at the knees though don't they?), so I answered assuming it didn't mean they would be strapped down. If it means strapping them down then no. I used to see little kids on wakeboards at the water park all the time when I was growing up, but none of them were actually strapped down as far as I remember.

There are some kids that are really good at water sports though, and start surfing and stuff as young as 5. That is always amazing to me. I am almost 30 and I don't think I could stand on a surf board to save my life.

With the proper flotation gear, I don't see why not I have no problems putting a 3 year old on snow skis...and if the child comfortable in the water, knows how to swim, and has proper lifevest/etc on, then I'd absolutely be all for it.

wakeboarding. I just described it how dh told me. The question is about his brother. He took his little girl wakeboarding yesterday. They called it wakeboarding, so I am assuming it is wakeboarding and not knee boarding. Maybe I should change the description. Sorry

It really depends on the situation. If my child knew how to swim, or at least had all the proper safety equipment and I was there to supervise I might let them. Some kids do amazing things very young!
