    Define: Love

    Advertisements
We had to attempt this in class today.

    Can you define it?

this is only relationship love (man/woman, man/man, woman/woman) not like mom and child, siblings, etc.
this is like a bad movie, and i'd give it a 5 on my netflix

this is what i believe the true definition of love is

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves."

I think true love cannot be defined because for each couple it's different, even if it's all exactly the same, every person perceives it differently.

the point my teacher made is that each of us will have our own conception of love. So the FIRST time your partner tells you they love you, how do you know what that means? And should you respond "I Love you too" are you even telling each other the same thing?

To me, love is just what gives my life meaning. When I would die for another human being, that's love. When I live for another human being, that is love.

Wow...how ironic that you brought this up. Actually with me and DB, things progressed very quickly in our relationship. we had been friends for about a year before dating and "loved" each other as friends. then when we started dating..only like 2 weeks in he said he loved me. I was very unsure and didnt say it back. Then he looked up the definition of love in many dictionaries and said that by all of them, he definately loved me. then we actually discussed what love was to each of us. By the time i said I love you, about a month later, we both knew what the other meant by it. I am glad it happened that way

I think it means something different, depending on the relationship, and the people IN the relationship. Relationship being a marriage, dating a boy/girl, a mother/daughter, father/daughter relationship...etc.

I don't think it can truly be defined.
