    Offended?

    Advertisements
Are you or your SO offended if they are called a "Solider" instead of a Marine, Sailor, or Airman?

I guess Soilder is a name for an individual serving in the Army. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I was reading a newspaper article about a bus of Marines that overturned close to my hometown and the article was referring to the Marines as Soilders. A few readers got really upset when commenting on the article, and it sparked my interest.

Personally it used to bother me if people referred to dh as a solider instead of a sailor, but it doesn't bother me as much now. It doesn't bother dh at all.

I picked other, because DH is in the Army. It's never happened, but he would probably be offended if someone called him a marine/sailor/airmen,etc.
    Thank you Brentscrystal!

As a former Marine, it would bother me if someone had referred to me as a soldier. It also bugs me when people say 'ex-marine' I always correct - Former Marine.

It takes a lot more than that to offend me. A lot more.

I said no it doesn't offend me. If someone called my dh a soldier I would just correct them. But then again I'm not one of those people who offend easily

Other, he's in the army... but when people refer to other branches as soldiers, I'll correct them. It doesn't offend me though, I just chalk it up to ignorance on the subject.

I picked other cause I really don't think I have heard anyone call him anything other than a Sailor. But I would think that niether of us would reall be offended, just correct them. No reason to be offended I think, either way it's a person serving in the armed forces! Right? So just correct them and let it be.
