I use black most of the time, unless I know what their actual descent is...

(I went to school with quite a diverse group of people) we had a Kenyan, a Nigerian, someone from Trinidad, and a few dark Samoans.

I forgot to add what I prefer. I am not a fan of colored because of the history of the word. Other than that, Black, African American, American I am fine with.

most of the time it is just black because that is who I know whats to be called....otherwise it is mr/mrs so and so. Skin color is not that important to me.

I say black. I worked with a black lady a long time ago and I asked her which she and her family and friends prefer. She said she is black and shes never been to Africa, so just black is fine with her. I figure if its doesn't offend her its not going offend most.

I say black, for the same reasons I call myself white, not Irish/Scottish/French American.

If it offended someone, I would hope they would tell me, and I would try to honor their wishes.
