An eye for an eye, because they deserve to be punished, etc.

So for those that follow eye for an eye (aka biblical justice) then what about all of the other crimes punishable by death such as working on the sabbath, adultery, idolatry, blasphemy, the list could go on. Also according to the Talmud ALL sin is equal in the eyes of Gd as such ALL sin is punishable by death. So why do we pick and choose which sins to follow the biblical justice on?

Eye for an eye just does not answer it for me, especially since I most often hear it said from Christians (not bashing just based on my own life experiences). It makes me think would Jesus want capital punishment when even as he died he forgave his murders and befriended the murderer next to him. If you (general) follow Jesus then how can you support this? To me it seems at odds with what he was all about.

biblical justice... that was not completely supported throughout hte bible... it is a sense of fear from within the state to control those living w/i the state. Hence y the prison system even exists, w/o it there would be less control and anarchy would be possible. Following Foucault's model the few can control the many, if the many cannot see why or how they are being controlled.
It is really just a big circle. The idea is that if u take the person out of society then they cannot continue to bring down the community, by killing law abiding citizen's which support the entire structure...

    My thoughts... all about control.

No i am not paranoid about the state.. just relates to my major

I'm not touching this one, I am pro death penalty... and I wish it would come about faster.

Especially in the face of such a fucked up criminal justice system where sentences are not fully served, appeals go on forever, places are over crowded because we care about stupid things, the prison system itself breeds violence, and even people on death row are more likely to die in prison of assault or old age than be executed.

If we could find something that works better, and more concretely than the current state of things, like letting habitual offenders back on the street only to re-offend and do more damage... perhaps I'd be for rehab and all those other things.
