    TriCare compared to Universal Healthcare

    Advertisements
Okay, so I have always felt, and in my research, I have found, that if we adopted Universal Healthcare it would be much like TriCare. What is everyone's opinion on this?
    Pros and Cons?

And, can we please refrain from calling anyone heartless in this debate.

I think it would be alot like tricare, which i think would lead to ALOT of people complaining about how they can never get an appt when they are actually sick (unless seen by an outside provider)

It would be like tricare, but there would be alot more doctors participating in the plan.

I have to ask this... yes I do thank tricare daily for they have covered for my family. But have any of you had to actually deal with them for serious illnesses? That is one reason why Gabe is still seen within the MTF for his cancer checkups. I refuse to fight tricare for what tests he needs to have done. If I take him to a civilian dr, once he hits his 5 year mark, tricare wont pay for his cardiology checkups once a year. Even though the chemo drug that can cause heart failure has been shown not to do so till 15-20 years later. So, I suck it up and keep in the MTF so that I know I wont have to deal with tricare to make sure he gets his checkups. Tricare also refuses to pay for 'suvivr" clinics. Which help with the late effects of having chemo and radition on a growing body. Tricare refused to pay for Danica's head ultrasounds, till I paid cash for the one she had that showed that she did have a brain bleed. Then they covered them.

If they impletment universal healthcare and it is done the same as tricare, I feel sorry for those that have serious health issues.

I have mostly been ridiculously unhappy with TriCare. The only thing I really love about them is that they cover the ER visits, no questions asked. As for continuous care, I have always had better luck when I am not in a covered region, meaning I get to see civilian doctors. I hear soooo many people say, well you wouldn't understand because you HAVE health insurance, and while that is true, I have had private insurance as well, and I definitely see the benefit of private insurance.

God help us if its like tricare.. but I do believe tricare is better than nothing and under a Universal Healthcare system in the US they would also have private insurance (doctors and companies still want to make money) so that would be a secondary option. It's a capitalistic society.

In the Emergency sense I agree with that. Other than that, I don't.
