    FRG account vs slush account

    Advertisements
So what if your dont ever have an FRG account? I have heard it is easier to have a slush account since there arent the same restrictions. Why would a unit put money into an account with such restrictions if they can do the same thing wiht the unit funds??

Because they have rules for a reason especially when the accounts have more than just a couple of dollars in it.

It's about accountability for one thing. I can't tell you how many times I have seen spouses investigated for using the funds for their own personal gain.

Also if your FRG is a registered organization on the base you will have to obide by their constitution and guidelines set for the group and base. Although the slush fund is more accessable, for tax pruposes you still need to account for everything or as momrisner said you could be investigated. And honestly it is safer having money in a trusted bank account then cash laying around

oh I understand why they want us to have one but if the unit has unit slush funds and they want to use that money for frg functions then do they have that option? or do they have to open up an FRG account? we're not on base so we dont have any base rules for that.

it would depend on the unit and what they have determind the slush fund would be for. If they have said the the slush fund would be accessable for frg functions, then yes, however they also need to take into account what the function is and the costs, they don't want to go wiping out the sluch fund in one hit.
