Ombudsmen - Who Pays for Your Cell Phone? - Command Leaders

Right now, in Norfolk, I have a phone from squadron.

But after the homeport change, I'll need a different one, and that squadron says they don't do cell phones for Ombudsmen.

So, I'm curious who pays for yours?

Our ombudsman pays for her own cell and her own home line. She said she could get reimbursed for the cost of her home line, but she doesn't since she perfers to have it to keep her from going over her cell minutes and she doesn't just use it for ombudsman business.

Oh, I pay for my own cell and my own home phone. But then there is the Ombudsman Cell Phone, that is separate, that came from Squadron.

In Hawaii, I'm not planning on having a home phone, and I don't want crazy cell phone bills on my personal cell. So I'm not sure if using my personal phone is a feasible option for me.

WOW, all the commands I have been part of the command takes care of the ombudsman cell phone. You aren't supposed to use it for personal use but they pay for it and when you are done with the job you turn it back in.

Edited to say that our last ship even left a cell phone for the FRG to use. We had to turn it back in when the ship returned but it came in really handy.

I use my own cell phone and then I will claim it on my tax return. Just a big hassle to do all the sf1164 paperwork for reimbursement. I mean, I would be paying for a cell phone regardless, but now I can claim that and my internet as business expenses. Our command doesn't offer to get a seperate phone, although I think the NAS Ombudsman did have one in the past.

I would also check with the command because they are the ones that provided me a cell phone when I was the ombudsman. Even after our change of homeport from VA to NH, the lady that replaced me got a new phone that was local to the NH area and it is paid for by the command.

The command provided and paid for the cell phone. I passed it along to the new ombudsman.

The command pays for my Ombudsman phone. I keep it until I resign, then pass it on.
