it means a lot of paperwork, etc. to keep the financials in order, but if you get a good system in place, it shouldn't be too hard.

It's hard work and it's a big responsibility because it's dealing with money and you have to account for all coming and going of the money. Make sure you keep all receipt and check all receipt that is given to you. One of wives of the unit tried to include her grocery list as part of the money that the FRG owed her. If the treasurer had not notice it, she would have gotten away with it.

I think it really depends on how active your FRG is. If they do a lot of fundraisers, and spend a lot of money, it will be time consuming. If they are very inactive, it might be less. It's definitely a lot of responsibility. Sometimes you have to kind of be the gate keeper to the money that all the different committees want to spend. But it's wonderful to have a good treasurer! Good luck!

I was asked to be the treasurer when my husband was on his last boat. I turned it down because I didn't want to be responsible for anything financial.

having managed a non profit's financials in the past, i STRONGLY suggest using quicken for business. it's super easy to learn & quite user friendly. it's not too pricey...~$80 (& it'd be an frg expense, not a personal one)

I am our FRG Treasurer i had to get everything in place from scratch, they handed me the check book & said thats all they have
I took a treasurer course & had to do the same course the FRG leaders take also, I think in total I did 5 hrs of training.
