Trying to sell a car on Craigslist.

    Advertisements
So my mom went out on a wim and bought me a car about four months ago, it was a used 2001 hyundai tiburon. The first day I got it, it had a flat. about a week ago the clutch went completely. Now that I know what it feels like for the clutch to go, the clutch was going since before I bought it. It will cost 1500 to fix it. I got a deal and can get it fixed for between 400 - 500. But I am afraid that problems are going to keep happening. There is a belt that squeeks. So I am trying to sell it to buy a car hopefully being sold by older people cauz they take better care of their cars. DB bought a 1988 car when he got back from deployment December of 07' and he has not had one problem and I have had mine for 4 months and the clutch is already gone. So I am not sure how much I should put it up for on craigslist. DB says 1,000 to see what kinda offers I get and take the best offer.. I'm just wondering what everyone else thinks.. Any opinions or advice would be wonderful. Thanks

You definitely want to put the price higher than what you are wanting to get for it. A higher price and then put in there OBO and you will probably get tons of calls.

Look up the blue book value, price the clutch replacement, subtract it and then ask for a bit more, but state that you will be willing to negotiate.
This should result in you getting decent value for your car, $1,000 for an 01 sounds a bit low to me, but I am unfamiliar with the Tiburon's resale value.

By the way, street racers, (and street racer wannabe's), are fond of the tiburon, that may be why yours is having issues.

I wouldn't put $1,000 as the highest price!

You should have buyers haggle from the highest price...not the lowest.
