    Church resignation?

    Advertisements
I didn't even know this was a thing, but my cousin posted this status tonight:

You know what? I'm proud to say that I will NOT be going on a mission when I turn 18, that I am no longer part of the LDS church. Rather than turning in papers to serve a mission, I'll be turning in my resignation letter to get my name removed from the church. I'm done.
So, I asked him about it and he gave me some information on how to go about it. I'm stoked. I haven't practiced since I was 17 and I've considered myself an agnostic for much longer. It's kinda lame that I relied on my younger cousin to let me know something like this even existed, but I. Am. So. Excited.

I just wanted to share my excitement with someone.

Neither did I, until tonight. Apparently, my 17 year old cousin is much more proactive than I have.

Yeah, it's a thing. It's always been an option if you wish to longer have your records with the church and don't wish to be baptized anymore. In the long run, for some people it's just better to have their records removed.

I don't understand how removing your records "unbaptises" you. I mean it happens with water that doesn't just vanish?

LDS is probably not the only religion that has something like it, but the only one that I know of. In strict LDS families, the member that turns their back on the church is basically outcast from the family itself. I rent several apartments on my property to the LDS for their young men going through their year abroad.

I was talking to someone who is catholic and he said he could get his baptism annulled? I don't know how legit that was but that's what he told me.
