about how long will it take?
Okay so my husband is leaving to Iraq at the end of the week. It is his first deployment so he doesn't really have an idea of how long it will take to contact me with an address that I can start sending him packages and letters to. Do any of you ladies who have gone through this before know more of less how long it will take to let me know an address?? Also do any of you know how long a letter or package will take to get there? And have you ever sent something to Iraq and they never received it???
it's a really big fear of mine to send a heart filled package and for him to never get it

Well for us, when he went over there it took a week for me to get his addy but Im not sure about the other girls though. And as for the sending things, the longest it took for him to get a package from me was 3 weeks and letters and stuff they always came in like a month (last time I do snail mail)

It will vary, so anyone's estimate on here isn't necessarily correct. My boyfriend gave me his Iraq address about 10 days after he deployed. I didn't get my brother's address for about 3 weeks. Stay in touch with the FRG, sometimes they can get you updates like that quicker than he can.
The mailing time will vary too. It depends on where he is. It's a lot better than it used to be. My boyfriend & brother both get my packages in about 7-8 days. On my boyfriend's first tour (05-06) it took about 2 weeks. One package got lost. When you fill out the customs form, look in the lower right hand corner. Check a box to indicate what should happen to the package if it's undeliverable. Mark the Return To Sender option.

My boyfriend gave me his address a week before he left. So far I haven't sent anything cause he is still in Kuwait. He told me he would call me to let me know when to start sending stuff

okay thanks Julianne I totally forgot about the return to sender option, at least I will get it back. What exactly is an FRG?
My husband is in the marine corps and it feels like they really love to leave him out of the loop when it comes to stuff like this.

Yup usmc wifey....they really love to. "first to go last to know..."
Okay so FRG is his units support for family....but his job in the marine corps is SSD "specialized search dog". He trains the dog to find explosives, so every unit only needs maybe 2-3 of these guys, so they train the SSD guys together and they attach them to whichever unit they need. my husband is being attached to an army unit....so I really don't know who to talk to? |
