    Email about new restrictions

    Advertisements
Hi! DB is deployed and I got an email about the new restrictions on what I can and can't send him. It now states I can only send him German coffee, not American. It states that USPS is now restricting American Coffee from being sent there. Curious as to where I can find German Coffee and if anyone else has had this happen.

Germany has some crazy rules. We have ration cards to buy coffee on base, so shipping in coffee is a no-go. You also can't send vitamins, nutritional supplements, or anything like that. It isn't a USPS thing; it is a German thing. Your package will be confiscated if they discover it has coffee in it, and you may get fined as well. Even if he isn't in Germany, I suspect there have been enough issues with this happening that they are just cutting off all coffee to APOs to make it easier.

I don't think you can even send German coffee, actually, because it still wouldn't have German taxes paid (or whatever the reason is that they ration coffee for us here). In fact, if you look at GG's link, it says, "no coffee", and doesn't say anything about allowing German coffee.

I read on another site that the coffee thing is because it is taxed heavily.

for the coffee - I know for a fact you can order coffee and have it sent to APO/FPO addresses, I worked for keurig and processed orders all the time that went to APO addresses.

if he really likes his coffee maybe see if you can send it through companies like Gevalia or Green mountain.

He was stationed in Germany before his deployment. Yeah, I find this to be a bit ridiculous. I am learning that they are restricting almost everything.

Although, I was thinking maybe Nescafe because their flagship is in Switzerland... which might be able to work.
