    Hello Birthday Balloons

    Advertisements
    Hi all!
I'm brand new (about 20 minutes new) to the site, and I can't wait to navigate around and discover all the lovely people and stories! I thought a great way to get started would be with my own post.

I've recently been pinning A LOT of care package ideas for my honey's upcoming deployment. He will be gone for his birthday (which falls on thanksgiving this year), Christmas, New years, valentine's day...the works! I have lots of ideas, but one that I recently thought about is birthday balloons! I have heard of people sending in-country packages to eachother filled with inflated balloons, so that when the box is opened the balloons fly out. My question is - is this kind of gift allowed to send overseas?

    My concerns:
    1. They obviously have to be small balloons, since I can't send him a huge box!
    2. They will have to be filled with helium - is this going to be an issue for customs? Since its a gas and whatnot?
    3. I'm concerned that they will deflate and he'll open a box of duds.

I've obviously got no experience. Input would be great!
Since his birthday will be on Thanksgiving, I planned on sending a box with cake-in-a-jar and other food type products for thanksgiving/birthday combo box!

    Thanks for your input!

You won't be able to ship helium filled balloons internationally. Unfortunately it's prohibited ... it is a really cute idea though!

First: Welcome. Make sure to make a post in the Newbie section introducing yourself.

Second: Tojai answered about the balloons, but another idea for thanksgiving ideas I did one year was send the microwavable meals that had turkey in it. We sent a bunch of them for his whole shop.

How do you find meals that will survive the trip?

We sent the Hormel Completes. They don't need to be refidgerated. They are found in the grocery isle that has the boxed dinners, or near the soups/raviolis.
