You could put envelopes that are labeled with a time (like 1 week, 1 month, etc depending on when he's returning) and write something for him to read and open when that time comes. Gives him something to look forward to!

That's a good idea! Hmmm, I could do like 1-25 (weeks) of reasons why I love him and he can open one a week.
