Baked goods?
Do you ever send backed goods in your care packages? I was told yesterday by an SO of a guy my DB is deployed with that we can't send baked goods for food poisoning reasons. Basically, she said anything with eggs won't work. However, I swear I've seen a few girls on here talk about how best to package baked goods when we send them. So, what do you ladies think? What have you done? Thanks!

Rice Krispie treats always go over well. Those things can last forever! Sometimes it's hard to send baked good because it can take weeks for a package to get there. Some ladies have had great success with vacuum sealing the cookies/cake/bread/who knows what else.

Well I just sent DH some Chocolate chip cookies and browines. Also made him a cake in a jar. All for his Birthday so I guess we will see if he ends up sick!
But Im pretty sure sending baked goods is Ok. And im not to sure about the food poisining thing, I sometimes leave my cookies and etc. out for a few days here and have never got sick I have also read where you can do Cookies and Brownies in a jar!

Thanks for your help ladies! I know rice krispie treats work well, I add tons of extra butter (like 1 stick per recipe, when it only calls for like 3 tbsp or something like that), and DB loves them. But I'm sure even if I switch up the cereal I use for those bars, eventually DB will get sick of them!
I guess I'll just have to try it out and see. I have a vacuum sealer, and I was planning on trying cake in a jar. Whatever, this girl gives me mixed messages all the time, and it's starting to piss me off! She talked about these cookies she sent her SO last time he was in Afghanistan, and now she's telling me I can't send my SO baked goods? Whatever...

I send cookies all the time. I use the Ziplock vacuum bags. Of coarse the packages have been getting to him so quick this time also. Like in a week. He always says they are soft when he gets them. Even when my ex dh was on the ship and it took 4-6 weeks I never had a problem.

I sent baked goods all the time and they always got there just fine. In fact, a box was returned to me a month after I sent it and the cookies in it were still edible (I thoroughly enjoyed them, though they were crumbly!). Especially with the weather starting to cool off some, I think you will be just fine.

I would send the usual rice krispies, but also Muddy Buddys (also known as Puppy Chow) and scotheroos keep well. I've heard bad things about those cake in a jars (like they can fester and create bacteria and salmonella and all that, so I was too freaked out to try them)
