"Care Package" Spinoff Idea
Hi! I'm new here, and this is my first post so bear with me. My boyfriend will be deploying in early 2010 for a few months. Some of you may think I'm crazy since it's only going to be a few months, but since we started dating 2 years ago we've never been apart for more than a few weeks!
I had an idea for a different type of care package & I wanted to get opinions. (Like, is it too corny, will it take up too much space, etc.) I thought I'd have family & friends each write him a little note, joke, picture, whatever they wanted, and I'll put it in an envelope. Then however many envelopes I had at that point, I'd fill the rest so that he has an envelope to open each day of his deployment. Special days, such as Valentine's Day, Superbowl Sunday, etc. I'd specify that I wanted him to open a particular envelope, but otherwise he could pick a random envelope whenever he wanted? Sorry for the novel, just trying to get my idea out & make sense of it! Thanks for reading! |

Thanks! If anyone has any ideas of different things to do in each one pass them along! I was thinking putting a memory card with pictures on it & maybe having him open that one halfway through or something... Or like a random goofy toy in some of them. Just something so he never knows what to expect! But I often get carried away & I definitely don't want to be "that girl" that he rolls his eyes at... HAHA

that's really cute-- but if you're going to do that, i'd suggest getting to work on all those 'extra days' now! as someone who is well versed in biting off more than i can chew... i can tell you that even a month's worth of original ideas can be a daunting task if you try to make each one an original creation.

Thats such a cute idea
I always say I will do something like that and just never get around to it! Its alot of work, I know I can spend anywhere between 2-3 hours on one Carepackage and its draining and messy!

I think it's a great idea! I just wish I could find the time to do it all and then make sure everyone else did it too
Let us know how it goes!

Thanks everyone! I'm really excited for it. I'm new to all of this - he's reserve & this will be the first deployment for both of us. Neither of us is really sure what to expect, and I want to let him know I'm thinking about him every day, and at least I'll know that for a few minutes every day, he'll think of me & the time I put into the whole thing.
I've found goofy jokes online, some song lyrics, random pictures that go with inside jokes... Things like that. So far it's been easy to think of things, but it's going to be REALLY tough to get anywhere near 120 ish. And yeah, the friends/family part will also be tough. People aren't too into it at this point yet b/c I think they're like "umm it's so far away!" But it'll be here in no time. |

![]() Before my husband deployed, I wrote him 24 little notes and told him to open one each hour...because they say the first 24 hours are the hardest. Some were short, some long..they ranged from sappy to naughty to funny to sad..some were quotes... When i ran out of ideas i just searched online for love quotes, marriage quotes, deployment quotes, etc. sooo...if you feel that the two month task is to much, you can try something to that effect. Good luck! and I'm sure he'll appreciate it. |
