Care Package Question
I gotta know guys. Why do you decorate your boxes?
I feel that if I decorate my box, that I would become attached to it and to know that it will only get thrown away just doesn't seem ideal to me. I know it's a nice gesture and that the guys probably like it but to me I just wouldn't want to put in the time and effort for a box that's just gonna end up in the thrash. I wouldn't expect him to keep every single box I send him just because I made it all purdy. I wouldn't want him to be burdened in that way. So tell me ladies. Whats your reason? Im just curious. |

I haven't made a care package yet, we still have a few months left before he leaves. But honestly, I would spend hours decorating something for him to throw away if it was going to show him how much I care, and how much effort I am willing to put into a gift for him. I think that every little gesture will help keep the morale up while they are gone. It's worth a few hours and planning of my time to make my DH know he is loved.

I decorate because its just so fun. It makes the package so much more personal.
Once, I had my little sister pick everything for the box, and she drew all over the outside. WE have the pictures but it was the best box ever. She was so proud (at 7) to make this box for him. I don't care that he tossed, we took pictures. Its not like we could ever use that box for someone else even if he did save it. |

I decorate the care packages because it IS a part of me, plus it passes the time. It's always a way to cheer me up. Whenever I'm feeling incredibly depressed and hermit-like, I start working on a care package idea and then decorating it. By the time an hour has passed I am 10X happier and he knows that I'm thinking of him.

Good question! I thought about that long and hard before I prepared my first decorated package...I was thinking why the hell am I going to spend all of this money on something that it going to be thrown away...sounds absurd right! I did it because it is theraputic for me. It allows me to express my thoughts and emotions through art. I don't expect him to keep any of it. Its my way of sending a message to him. He could care less but seeing it I think lets him know that I am thinking about him, I care about him and what he is doing out there, etc. by taking the time to prepare this for him. Similar to a nice meal...I go out of my way on say Thanksgiving to make a nice meal...taking my time to prepare and decorate cakes and pies, produce a beautiful bird, decorate the house and/or tablescape all to basically get eaten and destroyed but I still love doing it because it sends a message that I care. Not everyone says I care through art and that is fine...its just my personal way of showing my love. I hope that made sense.

My DB is not deployed but I still send him "care packages" at tech school. Everything I send I decorate...even envelopes
He LOVES it when I decorated the outside of the box too...so usually my boxes look wild and eclectic. But he really like them. I do it bc it's fun. I enjoy decorating them and it always makes him smile. One of his friends told me that he actually brags about his boxes and always has to show them off when he gets one. I think decorating the boxes just make the package a little more special. |

i feel closer to him when i'm putting in a lot of effort to making a box
its something to do, to look forward to, and its fun (i LOVE crafting) he loves getting them!! everytime the theme and the wacky stuff i come up with is a surprise it makes him feel so special that i do spend so much time to make it look pretty he loves my work, and seeing my handwriting, pics of me, my art, etc. makes him feel closer to me he saves the photos, some drawings and poems/messages that i decorate with. other guys get jealous, and that cracks us up. i mean, to each their own... if you don't want to decorate, then don't. some girls are really into sending boxes, some aren't. every couple has their own style, and i just do what works for us
