Care packages with baked goods
I noticed on here a lot of people send baked goods in care packages. I was wondering what is the best way to keep things fresh? My DB is in Afghanistan and he said it will take a good month for him to get mail. Any suggestions on the best way to keep baked goods from getting stale?
Thanks! |

I'd think vacuum sealing them would be the best way. or just in ziploc containers/bags.

I believe someone else posted about this a few months ago(you can search the forum) but someone had suggested foil then a zipock bag then in a container. I have a client who owns a cookie store and he said when he ships cookies to APO/FPO addresses he wraps them in a vacuum sealed bag and then in a container.
Hope that helps a little

I've only sent baked goods to Alaska and Texas to family and DH before, but I wrapped them individually in saran wrap, put them in a ziploc and sucked out as much air as possible, and then put them in cheap tupperware and taped the lid down tight.
Vaccuum sealers are supposed to be a great investment though.

I just sent brownies to DB.. He got them yesterday. I made them the night before, cut them up, put them in a ziploc container (not bag), and put it in the fridge til the next day. The next day when I was ready to pack the boxes, I took them out, put a ziploc bag around the container in case the lid opened and the bag was JUST too small, so I put one going to opposite direction and used packing tape to tape the two together..
7 days later.. DB got the brownies (in Iraq) and said they were the best brownies he'd ever had.
