Does anyone else throw money/coins in the garbage?

I have done this forever and now want to know if I am truly insane...or are there others out there?

When I clean out my purse or if I am cleaning my house and I come across nickels and ESPECIALLY pennies I throw them in the garbage.

I sometimes keep dimes but those have been known to end up in the trash as well.

    I just hate coins.

    Am I crazy?

Why not just start a jar and take it to an animal shelter or something every once and a while? I hate coins too, so I just collect them and then take them to the animal shelter every few months.

I hardly ever use cash, so it's unlikely that I ever have coins in my purse anyways. It's usually such a small amount, they fit in my wallet fine.

I throw mine in a coffee can and once it's full I bring it into the bank to their coin machine. Last time I had saved $96 in coins!!! I also save coins for the toll roads (since there are so many here).

Maybe instead of trashing your loose change you could throw some in a donation jar, or put them in a vending machine and let some stranger get a free snack. You know like a pay-it-forward type of thing...

Definitely not. I keep a jar for rainy day funds. Why don't you just put some sort of coin receptacle right by the garbage and then turn them to cash when you're sick of looking at them?

Banks here do not have a coin-to-cash machine. The grocery stores do but they charge 10% to cash them in. Toll roads don't accept pennies. Sometimes I give the loose change to my kids, sometimes I throw them away.. I don't often throw away silver, mostly just pennies. so, yeah.. no alone in throwing them away.
