He is a strange man. He's the type that will come to your house to visit and not say more than five words the whole time, and feel it was a very productive, meaningful visit. It's just the way he is, and while I haven't gotten used to it, I accept it. He was in the Air Force for 30 years, and he still treats people like his airmen. He comes across incredibly stern, emotionless and frankly, a little scary. (Except with his two grandbabies, somehow he totally melts with them.)
Anyway, now that I've described him a little, here's the story. A while back I posted a status update on Facebook about toasting a bagel directly on the burner of my flat-top stove, because I don't have a toaster and I have to get innovative sometimes. People teased me about it, etc etc, I mean it was kind of a silly status update.
So I get up today and I'm cleaning up the walk up to my house, and I get to my front door (I came out the garage like we always do) and there's a package on my porch. I bring it inside and open it.
My father-in-law has sent me a toaster.
No card, no note, no nothing. Just a toaster. The man may come across like a drill sergeant, but there's a bit of teddy bear in there somewhere.
