I am in the process of helping my grandmother have a yard sale and I found all my grandfather's old files from the Army, promotion letters, pay stubs and evals.

Just very cool to see stuff from all the way as far as the 50s

You should put all of the stuff into a scrapbook for your grandmother... That kid of stuff is priceless.

Definitely preserve those items. I have all my grandfathers stuff from his time in the army as well as all the old family photos. One of the neat things I found was pages from the Pontiac Michigan newspaper when Truman announced the Japanese surrender and PEACE along with two full pages with the chronological history of the war. I got them framed and they are hanging on my entry way wall (pretty cool considering I now live in Pearl Harbor where he was stationed when he collected all this stuff). Anywhoooo there is so much you can do with it all. Scan it and make memory books or put things together in a collage and frame it. Those things she would appreciate and would be a great thing to pass down from generation to generation.

Enjoy your trip down memory lane . I would also sit and talk with her and see if she has any additional info that she can recall and document it for your kids and grandkids so those memories don't go with her when she passes.

Don't divide it up! Get copies made for everyone... keep the originals together. (IMO, that's the best way to go and no one can complain that they didn't get something!)
