I need help understanding the DITY Move!
Im moving to San Diego, California for Homeport Change. I opted to do the DITY move because I needed to take some leave anyways and I dont have alot of stuff. Im trying to figure out this whole process and unfortunately Im at one of those commands where no one really knows the correct answer to give me. I understand you have to weigh your vechicle before and after packed prior to the move. But then this is where I get confused do I then weigh it when arriving to California. And Im wanting to haul a medium size trailer for the household goods, but how do I, if I get reimbursed for this. Someone please help I have no clue!

I haven't done a DITY but we are about to do a partial DITY and I had to go to the transportation office last week.
Basically you need to go to the transportation office and get all the paper work. Go have your car or uhaul weighed both empty and once it is packed full at any weigh station. IT can be before you pack up your stuff or once you get to SD and unpack. It's completely up to you. Just make sure you keep the signed weigh slip and once you take it to finance they process it and give you the $$. |

we had to pay out of pocket and it took then 2 months or so pay us back. Basically you have check into the command offically before you can start your paperwork but then you only have like 45 days to get it sent in. They should give you a packet to sign with the ( I want to estimate) of how much it will cost. The you send in the reciept ( and keep everything and make copies), you have to send the originals. And then you will get your checks. Make sure they pay all of it. They tried to only pay us back half, saying we should've recieved half to start off with. Which we didn't so they sent us two checks

for the full PPM you can either weight it at the old location or the new-
it does not matter- however the truck has to originate from the old PDS- if you have already PCSed you will need certified weight tix- signed and dated you will need reciepts from any expense associated with the Moving- dolly, boxes, blanket rentals- you can not claim tow bars, car top carriers- or anything else you Purchased- besides boxes. you will also need reciepts for tolls and gas- the reciepts will help your tax rate- since you will be taxed at 28-32% for any profit on the PPM. also you can find this information in the JFTR chapter 5.
