Public! I went to a Catholic private school in 6th grade and HATED it!

If I HAD to send DS to a private school, it would depend on which one. I definitely wouldn't want DS going to a private school that has a PROM where dancing is NOT allowed and costs more than tuition at a university...lol!

we want to home school, but if for some reason we don't we will be sending our
children to private school. From the research I have done, and the mom's with kids
in school I have talked to in the area, the private schools have smaller class sizes
    and more challenging course work.

From Kindergarten to 6th grade I went to a Catholic Private School, well we moved in between and I had to got to pubic school , because there was no private school there and I did not like it. 7th through 12th grade I went to an all girls private school. I considered going to a catholic university , but decided against it.. Just trying to see where I want my future kids to go...

If we had a child, they would go to both public and private school. I went to public school up until 9th grade and then went to Catholic school for high school. It offered a lot more AP and other advanced classes and gave me much more of a leg up than my local public school would have. I firmly believe that I would not be where I am today if it weren't for the quality and depth of the education I got in my Catholic schooling.

I went both and personally as a student I prefered private school. I was more challenged in private (I also went to school in a crappy state, Florida). For our kids I hope to homeschool, otherwise it would depend on the state.
