    What would happen...

...if a prison caught on fire? Let's say this fire is out of control, whoever is left in there will die. What do they do? I mean they can't really evacuate everyone and they wouldn't really have time to chain everyone together and get them out.

Just a random thought of the day

That's why it's made of concrete and metal.

the cement thing is true, but also... if you think about it, most prisons have huge grounds that are still within their fences. therefore the prisoners can still evacuate without having to completely leave prison grounds. there's no way prisons dont have fire drills, too. it's run by the state and the state requires fire drills by any gov't owned property every _____ weeks/months/years

Haha yeah I realize it wouldn't happen since everything is basically fireproof and I'm sure they have huge fire-hoses and sprinklers everywhere but lets just say it happened and the grounds around it are on fire too. What would they do?!?

i agree with the poster above about there being a lot of ground surrounding the prison. i doubt there'd be any trees or if there are, very few, because the guards would want to be able to see everyone's activities outside to make sure nothing shady or dangerous is going on out there.

Concrete CAN catch on fire. Especially since it is painted, and paint is an accellerant.
add that to the metal in the prison, and the rebar melting (eg: twin towers), one issue is the building collapsing.
The second problem is smoke. More people die from smoke inhallation than the fire itself. Most prisons have small walls and not great ventilation (they tend to stinks).
