    WORST application question EVER

    Advertisements
I'm filling out an app for an on campus job and this is the current question:

In your life story which actor would play you? And why.

I'm sorely tempted to respond with "This is the stupidest question I've ever been asked on an application."

    HELP! What do I doooooo?!?!?

    Just fluke it

I was once asked in an interview what tree I would want to be. I told them an oak tree because they are sturdy and live long.

I would name your favorite or one you think is a good role model. That way when you explain why you give reasons of them being a role model or what not.

Put an actress that looks like you so for the why part you can say "I picked ____ because she looks like me and she's an actress so acting like me should be easy for her" Ok I'm kidding hehe I say just go with what michellelac said.

The purpose of that question is to see if you can organize a coherent thought, make a thesis statement, and defend it. They want to know if you can write, and if you can use your writing to take a stand and defend that stand.

If they've given you enough space, use the basic five-paragraph model:

Paragraph 1: Define your actor of choice, and itemize out three general reasons.
Paragraph 2: Go into detail about Reason Number One, using memory jogs and actual references (say, the Cameron Diaz role in My Best Friend's Wedding, and how you felt she brought a complexity to an otherwise sweet but shallow character).
Paragraph 3: Details about Reason Number Two.
Paragraph 4: Details about Reason Number Three.
Paragraph 5: Summation, bring it all together, close.

What they probably DON'T want to see is "Paris Hilton, because she's hotttt." I recommend choosing an actor/actress who has done a variety of roles that you can compare and contrast. If you REALLY wanted to impress them, you could choose a male actor, address the way he's played his various roles, and say that with the right makeup and clothing, anyone ban be anything. I'm thinking George Clooney.....

My boss in every interview asks "if you were some type of road kill what would you be and why?" I'm glad he wasn't the one who did my interview.

No... it wasn't meant to be a giant question. There wasn't much space. The rest of it was far more writing-intensive.
