Ok I'm obsessed right now. I read the Silmarillion, hello back story to almost EVERYTHING in the LOTR. So I'm rereading those. Anyone have suggestions on where to go from there? There are so many books of his.

I have really struggled with anything of his other than LOTR and the Hobbit. I don't know why - I love them and would think I'd love his other writing, but I find it so much more difficult to get in to.

I'll be this thread to see what others have for suggestions.

I'll be honest it was a struggle, but I've always had to read his stuff more than once, and the second read is usually WAY easier.

Yep, its about the really early ages. Think Galadriel's grandparent's era. And it's written in a short-story format, I really liked it.

Wow so along the same lines has the Silmarillion.

    Also look into Unfinished Tales.

These works are harder to read than LOTR or The Hobbit, but one thing to keep in mind is that these are works that were not ready for publication.

Love Tolkien! I haven't read anything other than what's been mentioned here, but they are all good for multiple readings.

Yeah I could for sure tell that with the Silmarillion.
