Have you read the Dark Tower series?
I'm on pg. 93 of book 1: The Gunslinger and it's going okay so far. It's kind of hard for me to follow. It's a story in modern time but yet it feels like a western movie setting to me. I've had to re-read pieces over again here and there. If you've read all or any portion of the Dark Tower series by Stephen King, what did you think? |

I loveeeeeeeeee it so much! I seriously cried at the end of the last book. The Gunslinger is kind of different from the rest of the series and alot of people say they like the rest of the series better (if they didn't like the gunslinger). It gets a little less westernish as the series progresses, which I think helps, because I'm not a huge fan of westerns. Roland is always going to be the outlaw cowboy type though.
It helps if you've read alot of Stephen King stuff because he ties in SO many of his other novels/short stories. It really becomes like a whole Stephen King universe in and off itself - like the Lord of the Rings without a made up language. The ending of the series is quite possibly the perfect ending in all of literature. I promise it is worth it to get through the first book!

That's the version of "Gunslinger" that I read; the rewrite. If that was the rewrite then I'm glad I didn't read the original because I would have NEVER finished it. The thing that sucks is in book #2, King sums up book #1 in 1.5 pages. Literally. So, a book that took me 2 weeks to get through could have taken me 2 minutes by just reading that summary. Oh well. I'm just hoping this second part is better because I'm considering a different series that I'm much more interested in...
