    You people with tattoos

    Advertisements
I'm curious, for those who sport a lot of body mod, especially tattoos, have you received negative attention and reactions? I was reading a discussion earlier about this supposed majority of people who think tattoos are disgusting and foolish, especially on women. Granted, some of these individuals are from older generations and live in more conservative areas, but it got me curious about others' experiences.

I spent more years in the South as a heavily tattooed woman than anywhere else, and I never received negative attention or looks. Though I did live in an urban and progressive area, which likely had a lot to do with it. I'd get curious looks when I'd go to my kids' school because I was pretty much the only parent with so many visible tattoos. There are tons of tattooed parents at my kids' current school. It's a total non-issue here in So Cal, which I expected to be the case. But whether I was in VA, NC, GA or CA, it has never been an issue.

I have LONG neon pink hair, facial piercings and 14 tats. Most tats not visible when wearing jeans and a T-shirt....um actually with jeans and a T you can only see my ring finger tattoo. Yep I get looks and judged all the time down here in Ga.

I've had a tattoo on my arm since my 16th birthday, and I grew up in a very exclusive, conservative area within a very established, conservative family and have never once received negative attention for it Not even at big parties!

If anybody's given me the stink eye for it, I've missed it. Jersey, Kansas, Albuquerque, and abroad.

Where's Kings Bay in GA? Whenever I ventured 25 minutes outside Atlanta it was like I stepped into the South. That's when I clearly did not feel welcome, but I'm not sure if it had to do with the tattoos and/or my biracial appearance. I must have looked like a puppy-killing heathen.

I have three, but two are hidden unless I show you, the third is small and on my foot. No one has ever noticed it on their own except my mom because I lived at home and had my feet up on the coffee table. But I had already had it for like four months

So, no. But I did have my lip pierced for a brief period of time (I loved it ) and I definitely got looks and judgment for that.

I have 12 tattoos, one being a quarter sleeve. Plus, I have bleach blonde hair with pink tips and streaks.

In Virginia, I didn't get any funny looks. Sometimes, here in SC someone will look at my tattoos, but not often. At the kids' schools, it's never an issue. But...they go to schools on base and there are many Marines and their spouses who are tattooed.

My tattoos aren't visible to anyone unless I show them to you.

DH: Thank you. ME: For what, babe? DH: For being you.

My tattoos are pretty much hidden unless I'm wearing shorts and a tank top, which here in Maine is maybe for 2-3 months out of the year lol. But my best friend I believe has 9 tattoos and a lot of piercings. I believe she gets more looks for her piercings than her tattoos.

As someone with no tattoos or piercings (aside from some in my ears and my belly button) a lot of times when I see someone with piercings and tattoos I catch myself staring. Not because I think they're disgusting, but because I'm thinking "I wish I could pull that off!" Or I'm just admiring the work.

I get funny looks at church, but they've gotten over it.

FL had the most obnoxious folks... Touchy feely on my tattoos. It drove me nuts. I've gotten several more visible pieces since moving to NM, but when people look at me funny, I'm not sure if it's because of the ink or because I'm an almost six foot, half asian, plus size woman with ink. (That happens to ride her own Harley.)
