    Piercing and breastfeeding

    Advertisements
I wasnt sure which to post this in, so I decided here.

Here in Alaska it is against the law to get pierced while breastfeeding. Supposedly there is a higher chance of rejection (?) so they refuse. But Kansas will do it. So it must not be that high of a chance if some states will and some wont.

I have wanted to get my lip pierced since like 8th grade and I was really bummed out.

Has anyone ever gotten pierced while breastfeeding? What was your experience if so?

Are you sure it is only illegal because of higher chance of rejection? I would think it would be more because of possible infection that could be passed to baby. Infection happens, even at reputable shops. I probably wouldn't get pierced just because of that.

The piercer only said because of chance of rejection, but that makes sense as well. I just find it odd that some places will and some wont. It just struck me as odd. Also means I have to wait an indefinite amount of time (probably roughly a year, but still) to get the piercing that I wanted and talked about for the entire time I was pregnant. I couldnt get it before pregnancy because of the job that I had. :-/

It's the hormones. It does weird shit to your skin. Rejection is no joke. I'm sorry you can't get the piercing you want.

Oh okay, that makes sense. I didnt know really how it caused rejection.

It sucks but I guess it gives me time to save up to get snake bites like I originally wanted rather than just the one side

I'm not exactly sure about the science behind it, but really, baby hormones are weird. It makes you stretchier, and it could make you more sensitive to foreign bodies. Rejection is literally your body going NOPE DONT WANT THAT, and pushing it out. On a semi-unrelated note, my piercer and my tattoo artist both told me to reschedule my appointments if I was on my period because it'll hurt a kajillion times worse. With the piercing it was something to do with it just not being a happy experience both during and after. So I dunno.

I have had piercings and tattoos both done without any issues while I was BFing, and I am normally sensitive to piercings.

I have handled all of my piercings very well which is why it kinda makes me

Im tempted to go find someone who will do it for me. But not tempted enough to actually do it.

Dang Alaska!! But no, really, it makes sense. I mean their laws are there for a reason. Maybe the different climate here (with it being so soooo dry) might have something to do with it.
