Gløgg is sweet Danish spiced wine. Its served hot, and doesn't have a strong taste like plain wine.
1 bottle dark red wine (for this I used a $12 local wine- San Felipe Ruby Cabernet, but anything dark will work) Sugar Whole cinnamon sticks Powdered cinnamon Whole cloves 1 orange Turn the stove on very low heat. Empty the entire bottle into a very clean sauce pan. Stir in sugar (I use about a cup and a half cause I like mine really sweet, but you can use less) with a wooden spoon (don't use a metal spoon or it will ruin the flavor). Add a handful of cinnamon sticks, a pinch of cloves, and a little sprinkle of powdered cinnamon. Grate the peel off half an orange and add that too. (If you really like orange-you can cut half of one into thin slices and use those instead of just the peel). Keep the heat on low until it starts to steam. Then crank up the heat and the second it bubbles (not boils!), turn off the stove. ![]() Now you have to strain the gløgg. You can either cover your wine glass with a coffee filter and pour it out of the pan so that the filter catches all the spices, or you can use a tea pot with a removable insert (like you'd use for loose tea): ![]() ![]() You should drink it while its still very hot.
